Return authorisation

It allows you to leave and return within up to 90 days while residence or stay is being renewed or extended, or if a valid TIE was lost and you have already applied for a duplicate. The current form is EX-13, not EX-18.

Request a return-authorisation appointment (opens in a new tab)

The button opens the administration’s website in another tab. MiCitas does not sign in or fill anything in there.

Who it is for

Someone who proves they started the renewal or extension within the legal deadline, or the holder of a valid TIE who proves they applied for a duplicate because of theft, loss, destruction or damage. There is an exceptional case when the initial authorisation is already granted and the card is being issued, if the trip is necessary.

  1. 1

    Check that you qualify

It is not permission to travel on an expired card without having filed anything. You must prove that renewal or the duplicate was started. If you apply before the authorisation expires, validity is no more than 90 days from that expiry. If you apply afterwards, it is no more than 90 days from the grant.

  2. 2

    EX-13 and €10.72

The e-office asks for form EX-13 and the 790 code 012 receipt. The fee table shows €10.72 for the return authorisation. Interior adds that the original and a copy are filed, signed, and that the other documents are checked and returned.

  3. 3

    Where

Interior says it is filed in the province of your home, at the immigration office or the police station. The police sheet speaks of any immigration office and police unit. Follow the appointment you are given.
