Municipal registration

Registration on the roll of the town where you live. In Barcelona the official procedure we reviewed is free. Madrid and València have their own appointments. It is not requested on the immigration ICP site.

Barcelona virtual office (opens in a new tab)

The button opens the administration’s website in another tab. MiCitas does not sign in or fill anything in there.

Note for your province. Registration does not expire except for foreign nationals, who must renew or confirm it periodically. That sentence on the sheet does not set the number of years: read the town hall’s letter.

Who it is for

Someone who habitually lives in the municipality. In Barcelona, someone who cannot prove the dwelling, or who has no fixed address, must do it in person; in the second case, with a residence-knowledge report.

  1. 1

Use the town hall, not the immigration office

The roll is municipal. A police appointment does not register you.

  2. 2

    Barcelona

The virtual office, updated on 1 November 2026, says registration is free and can be done at any time. Someone who cannot prove the home, or has no fixed address, goes in person.

  3. 3

    Madrid

There is an appointment at citizen offices for registration, removal and a change. The page we reviewed limits it to one appointment per person every 30 days, in the name of the adult who attends, and to one address per appointment. It asks for a signed application, valid identity and papers on use of the home.

  4. 4

    València

They recommend an appointment, one per person except for a family unit. If there is no slot, the page itself links electronic registration and says you can attend without an appointment at OAC Tabacalera (11 Amadeo de Saboya) and at 1 Periodista Azzati. Information phones 962 081 104 and 010.
